New In: MAC

Hello lovelies,

Being very busy the past week, a quick trip to Austria was a welcomed vacation. Of course, when I’m in Austria I can’t not go to the MAC store  (actually a counter at Marionnaud) and this time was not different. So far all my visits to MAC stores resulted in only one lipstick (I have way too much eyeshadows and blushes and I have cheaper brush options which work fine for me), but this one made up for all the times I’ve been there and bought nothing.

Recently I created an inventory and with that in mind I decided to get (mostly) the products I need. I had several more items on the list (the one I didn’t buy) which were an eyeshadow in Vex (but I have a bunch of eyeshadows), blush in Harmony for contouring (but I recently found my perfect contouring product and I’ll show it to you the next week) and Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightcdscapade (but I kind of decided that it looks too shimmery and that, if I get a highlighter, it will be Shiseido).

I got two face products: Pro Longwear concealer in NC15. My Lancôme Effacernes will finally be finished (it’s about time, I’ve had it for like 10 years). The bonus is that it only contains 9ml so I hope it will take me less than 10 years to finish it :)

My skin is reacting to dry winter air by being even more oilier, so I bought MAC Blot powder in the shade Light. I’ve heard raves about it all over the internet so I hope it will live up to expectation.

By the way, I finally know which is my MAC foundation shade – it is NC15; it will be useful for future foundation references.

Uzela sam Pro Longwear korektor u nijansi NC15.

I couldn’t resist getting more lipsticks. This time I got two shades: Impassioned (warm bright pink) and Vegas Volt (orange coral). These are Amplified line, so I hope it will be less fussy than matte line. The colors are not really true to nature – it is dark and cloudy so I couldn’t get a decent light.

Have you tried some of these products? What other MAC products would you recommend?

Uzela sam još par ruževa: Impassioned (topla jarka roza) i Vegas Volt (narančasto koraljna). Te su nijanse iz Amplified linije, pa se nadam da s njima neću imati problema kao s matte linijom. Boje nisu baš najbolje prikazane jer nemam dobro svjetlo.

Jeste li isprobali koji od ovih proizvoda? Koje biste druge MAC proizvode preporučili?

Thank you for reading,

xox Tamara

MAKE-UP STASH INVENTORY (January 2012)

I think it’s high time for me to start to control my impulsive purchases and redirect the money I spend on cosmetics I don’t need on something else. I’ve had much more self-control before I started to get involved in beauty community. Before, I’d purchase something only when I would need it, but now I’ve been buying things only because they seem pretty or I think that I simply must have it (even though I’ll probably use it several times before the product is lost in my stash.

I don’t like feeling overwhelmed every morning when I’m doing my make-up with all of the products which I have. Sometimes it takes me literary 10 minutes only to decide which eyeshadow I should use. I’ve tried the concept of creating “looks” which would include several products and then wearing the look for the next week. It is a good concept, but this means that 90% of my stash sits there unused while I’m wearing the “look”.

I do not plan to use up all of my make-up. I’ll use eyeshadows only until I hit the pan (especially if it is a discontinued or LE product). The same goes with lipsticks. I always leave a millimetre or two of the lipstick in case I ever need to find a dupe. After that, I put the product in the original packaging and put it in my “finished products” drawer. I know this sounds a bit ridiculous, to keep the boxes after you have spent the product, but I have paid a lot for these products and I cannot imagine throwing the compact of, let’s say, Guerlain eyeshadow away.

I have taken a photo of all the items in my stash, for my reference (I’ll do the same the next year). Compared to the previous stash pictures, you can see that I have spent some items (yay! for me) and hit the pan on many others.

SEPHORA Mineral Double Compact Review

I’ve bought this compact during that time when absolutely every company had to launch their version of minerals.

Sephora Mineral Double Compact has 10 grams and it retails for $22.

I got Mineral Double Compact in D25, which is a bit too dark, but it is the lightest shade I can get here. I liked the idea of this being talc free powder and I hoped it would be a great alternative to much pricier Diorskin Nude Loose Mineral Powder. I’d say that D25 is very similar to NC25. Currently, it is almost the perfect match, but I never use it during winter. I wanted to swatch it on my arm, but it is impossible as D25 is the exact shade of my underarm. I’ll try to make a swatch in several months, when I’m back to my normal pale self :)

The powder comes in a round compact. Underneath the powder pan is a dual-side sponge and a mirror (not very practical since you have to flip the foundation pan up and down).

Two differently coloured sides of the sponge serve to give various degree of coverage – the white side is for light coverage and the black side is for heavy coverage. I find that both sides apply the foundation too heavy for my liking. Instead, I apply it with a powder brush.

The powder seems pretty dense – you can tell that it is made to cover. The foundation minimizes the appearance of pores up to some degree, but it doesn’t mask them completely. However, it doesn’t cover acne well. Nevertheless, I never expect full coverage from a compact powder foundation.

Mineral Double Compact is drying. Therefore, I usually only wear a thin coat of it as a finishing powder. It also emphasizes dry patches, and if applied heavily, it can look cakey. This improves as the day goes and my natural oil „melts“ the powder.

It did not break me out and it didn’t oxidize.

There is 10g (0.35oz) of the product. It has SPF 10.

My Stash: Meteorites

I think that there is no person which hasn’t heard about Guerlain Meteorites pearls. My Meteorites collection is tiny. Even though I’m Guerlain fan, I wasn’t impressed with the pearls for a very long time. My first purchase were the giant pearls form Midnight Butterfly collection, which were a bit disappointing. They had far more shimmer and they did not give that subtle healthy skin glow.

I also have compact Meteorites powder, which is discontinued and replaced with the new one. I was a bit reluctant purchasing it, because none of the shade (except the LE one) didn’t match my skin 100%, but after testing it a bit more, I’ve realized that the powder really adapt to the skin. It’s a shame that it is discontinued.

My Stash: Foundations and Powders

When it comes to the foundations and powders, I’m still having control over it. I have three foundations, plus several 5ml samples, and 4 powders. Although I’d be happy if I could only have one of each, I don’t believe this is over the top.

YVES SAINT LAURENT Poudre Compacte Eclat et Matite Review and Swatch

Yves Saint Laurent Poudre Compacte Eclat et Matite (Matt and Radiant Pressed Powder) is a mattifying pressed powder. It comes in a golden box with mirror included. The box is placed in a black velvet pouch with two compartments: one for the powder and the other for the powder puff.

The box contains 10 grams of powder and it retails for $45.

I’m not a fan of pressed powders as they emphasize flakiness, but since I finally don’t have problems with flakiness and dehydration (weird, because I’m currently using a retinol based product), I’ve decided to see what did I miss.

Up to this product, I only had 2 pressed powders: Guerlain meteorites and Sephora mineral powder and I used them as finishing powder. I’ve had the same plan for this powder, too.

The powder itself is very pretty: it has a bas-relief heart with YSL signature on it. It is so pretty that I didn’t want to touch it :)

I have picked the shade 2 Light Sand (neutral light beige). I’m NC15 (winter) – NC20/25 (summer) and I was having doubts, I even considered taking the shade 3, because it seemed light enough in the compact, but thankfully, the SA suggested that shade 2 would be better. However, when I came home, even the shade 2 seemed a tiny bit too dark (it is probably only a slight oxidation). It is not very obvious, but I think that during winter the shade 1 Natural Light might be for me.

For the first couple of weeks I have used this powder exclusively as a setting powder on top of Carita Voile de Beaute foundation. Applied with Sephora Mineral Powder brush, the powder goes on translucent and with no coverage.

The powder is supposed to leave skin matte with long-lasting radiance. Well, it you have very oily skin and you are searching for a mattifying powder, then YSL Matt and Radiant Pressed Powder is not the best choice. Granted, it mattifies to some extent – max 5 hours. Ck Loose Powder works better in the terms of mattifying. But I really like the fact that YSL powder won’t make you unnaturally matte looking – the finish is very soft and natural.

For the purpose of this review, I have also tried the powder using a powder puff which you get with it. I have to say that I’m amazed. As I have mentioned, due to chronically dehydrated skin, I have avoided using only pressed powders. But this powder has changed my mind.

Applied with a puff, this powder almost completely hides the appearance of expanded pores (and my pores are huge – you can check that in my other foundation reviews). What really surprised me, especially because this powder isn’t ment to cover, is that it covers the redness and the irregularities on the skin. However, as you can see on the swatch included, it won’t cover larger imperfections.

The only problem I have with this powder is that, if I wear it for several days in a row, it will clog pores and I will breakout. If I use it every other day, I don’t have these problems.

As a finishing powder, YSL Matt and Radiant Pressed Powder is nothing to write home about, but I recommend it as a powder foundation for slightly oily girls with minor blemishes.

GUERLAIN Meteorites Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder in 10 Nacre des Mers Review

This wonderful complexion enhacer comes in three regular shades: 01 Mythic – which makes me look too pale, 02 Rose Frais – which makes the face too pink, and 03 Beige Lumineux – which is too dark.

The central shade is correcting, and the lighter shade on one side illuminate complexion, while the darker shade on the other side evens out the complexion.

I’ll review the shade 10 Nacre des Mers, which is a limited edition from 2009 summer collection.

Nacre des Mers has a blue pearl in the centre, surrounded by a very light beige. One half of the outer circle is a darker warm beige, while the other half is a darker cold beige. Both beige colours are much lighter than the beige in 03 Beige Lumineux, therefore making it appropriate for a light skinned persons.

The powder has a shimmery pearly owerspray, which disappears once you swipe the brush over it.

Once you put it on the face, the powder gives the most amazing natural luminous finish. It is not shimmery at all, but neither dull matte. It really enhances the complexion and minimizes the appearance of the pores. Unfortunately, its oil-control abilities aren’t impressive.

In spite of that I’m really impressed with  this product and I really regret that this shade isn’t a part of permanent collection.
