January Empties :)

jan empties

Hello lovelies,

I don’t know about you, but seeing a bunch of empties makes me really happy. The reason probably is the fact that I’m really set on minimizing my collection this year and so far January has been a great month for empties. It’s a pretty long post, so I’ll skip to the main part:

L’OREAL Elvital Anti-Haarbruch Mask Review and Ingredients

l'oreal elvital mask

When it comes to cosmetics, hair care is probably one of the domains I’m least interested in. However, my hair is completely weird – it is very thick and tries to defy the laws of gravity when it shouldn’t.

A couple of months ago I finally got my hair cut (I didn’t cut it for over two years after my last hairdresser had traumatised me) and since I still don’t trust the hairdressers completely, I want to avoid getting it cut for as long as possible.

L’Oreal is known for transferring almost 90% identical formulas from one of its brand to another, so this is the company I trust the most when it comes to hair product (they own Kerastase).

From what little of German I understand, Elvital Anti-Haarbuch Mask is intended to nourish and repair damaged hair.

The mask is very thick in consistency – like a butter and you really have to dig in. Once you get it on your fingers, it is creamier and it easily applies on the hair.

The instructions say to leave it on towel-dried hair for 2 to 3 minutes – I usually leave it up to 10 minutes.

I’m currently using Subrina Anti-Dandruff shampoo, which is effective against dandruff, yet it tangles my hair. The mask detangles it without a problem.

As for its efficiency, I have noticed that my hair is softer and easier to style. It is not damaged at all, but I’m using the mask for almost a month and when I started it, my hair was undamaged. Usually, I get split ends after a month, but so far there is no split ends.

So far I’m pretty satisfied, but I need to give it more time for better estimation.

Yves Rocher, Drugstore and Oriflame Shopping

After recently seeing a SA in a fancy perfumery taking the mascara out of the drawer, opening it to show the brush and then putting it back so that some unsuspecting soul can buy it, I no longer trust either drugstore or high-end mascaras to be brand new, unopened when I buy them.

The solution presented itself in the form of Oriflame catalogue – since you get the package delivered to you, there is a little chance that someone will open your product. Of yourse, once I got the catalogue I couldn’t stop at only the mascara (Giordani Gold Volume Delight).

They launced a new perfume More by Demi and you got a free Giordani Gold Jewel lipstick with it. I needed a go to daytime fragrance for work – since it seems that I won’t be able to get byKilian in Croatia, I wanted to find something cheaper to use daily and to save byKilian’s I have. The fragrance is good enough – the lasting power is comparable to higher-end brands, so I’m pretty satisfied.

I haven’t tried the lipstick that came with it yet, because I accidentaly ordered the wrong colour – I got the shade Dusky Nude instead of the shade Pink Secret. I’m still considering whether I should exchange it. I almost forgot to mention that I have ordered the samples of every shade, so you’ll be able to see the swatches (hopefully when I get my new camera).

I also ordered a hand cream – I’m out of Eucerin and I won’t be able to go to the pharmacy, so I hope that Oriflame Hand Repair Concentrate will be a satisfactory replacement.

At Yves Rocher store, I updated my collection of Jardins du Monde shower gels. This time I got Cotton Flower and Lotus Flower. I have to try them, but it seems that their fragrance won’t be my favourite.

I’ve visited Mueller drugstore, wanting to stock up on my favourite foot cream and hoping to find something to condition my hair. I’m not really into the hair-care stuff and ever since the Kerastase debacle, I’m not willing to give much money for hair, so the drugstore it is. They had like a zillion products and, after musing about them for half an hour, I simply grabbed the first thing that came in my hand – L’Oreal Elvital mask for damaged hair. I’ll see how it works and let you know.

L’OREAL Color Infallible in All Night Blue Review and Swatch

Even though I’m on “no eyeshadows” project, I couldn’t resist this shade. I’ve heard a lot about these eyeshadows and I have found the perfect opportunity to try it for minimal price when I found one on the super sale (around $3) in my local drugstore. I think this shade will be discontinued, though.

The consistency is like a pressed pigment. It comes in a small jar and has additional black plastic cover. Do not throw it away, because it helps preserve the product.

The colour is a vibrant shimmery royal blue. I’m going to primarily use it as an eyeliner – I wanted a blue eyeliner for ages, but majority was either too dark, almost black looking, or too bright. This shadow is perfect.

As you can see from the swatch, it is super-pigmented. I was afraid that it will be more black than blue (a common problem with some eyeshadows), but it remains true to pan even applied in a thin layer.

And finally, the staying power is amazing. I have tested it on the probably hottest day in Croatia (the coldest room in my house was 31 degrees Celsius) and outside was 40 Celsius. I have extremely oily lids, and the heat certainly didn’t help.

However, L’Oreal Color Infallible has an amazing wear. I have tested it with a primer (Essence I Love Stage) on one eye and without a primer on the other. The results were excellent. After 10 hours there was just a slight creasing, but no fading on the eye without a primer. Over the primer, the eyeshadow looked as good as it did the moment I applied it. There was no creasing and the colour hasn’t faded a bit.

I am very impressed and I recommend those if you are on a hunt for affordable, longwearing eyeshadows.

My Favourite Cosmetics Products in 2010

I probably should have published this earlier, but it was a bit hard to decide which items I should put on the list. I didn’t want to de recommendation for every category because I simply haven’t tried every new product that has been released in 2010 and I’d feel stupid recommending something if I haven’t tried all other products from the same category.

I’d like to talk about the products I’ve found in 2010 and which have become my HG (holy grails) and irreplaceable items in my stash.

SKINCARE

In 2010 I’ve stopped being a skincare snob. For a long time I’ve been using only high-end French cosmetics, because my dermatologist (he is also a skincare snob) told me that French make the best skincare. In spite of that, in 2010 I have finally ventured in drugstore skincare. Today, I’m so glad I did it, because I have found some excellent skincare items there:

OLEA Moisturizing Toner. I cannot rave enough about this product. It is so cheap and yet so good. This is a definite replacement for Sisley Floral Toning Lotion

OLAY Complete Night. Excellent moisturizer, which moisturizes without making me greasy. It made me want to try out the Day version and Beauty Fluid

HYGIEIA Zincia face cleanser. (not on the picture) One of the rare items in my skincare routine which I have repurchased. Naturally, I have to combine it with cleansing milk when I have to remove make-up, but this is the most gentlest, the most non-irritating cleanser I have found.

——————-

There are also some high-end items which I won’t give up:

SISLEY Gel Express aux Fleurs. Excellent moisturizing mask for times when I need that extra boost of moisture.

SISLEY Creme Gommante. Very gentle exfoliator, which I also use as cleansing mask.

——————

Also my favourite hair care item has become:

GARNIER Natural Beauty Vanilla shampoo and conditioner. It lathers well, the hair isn’t dried out and it has a lovely smell.

——————

As a body exfoliator, I’ve only used:

L’OREAL Exfotonic. Body exfoliator with AHA which is neither too mild not too strong. I was afraid that it is discontinued, but I regularly find it in my drugstore.

MAKE-UP

As far as the make-up is concerned, in 2010 I haven’t discovered many new HG items, but there are a few worth mentioning:

GUERLAIN Cherry Flower Blush. At first I hated it, but now I cannot live without it. This is a wonderful neutral peachy-pink.

——————–

GUERLAIN Jeu d’Ombrelles eyeshadow quad. Purple eyeshadow usually makes me look sick, but this is an exception.

—————-

GUERLAIN Rouge G #61 Gaela. Even though the lipstick could be more moisturizing, it has a lovely bright pink colour and it is very longlasting.

——————

SISLEY Phyto-Lip Star Rose Quartz. Excellent non-sticky pink lipgloss with tons of silver and pink microglitter.

——————-

CLARINS Everlasting Foundation. I think I have said everything about it in my recent review.

———————-

CATRICE Nail Lacquer in Bloody Mary To Go, Clay-Ton My Hero, Let’s Mauve On and Caught on the Red Carpet. These four shades are my favourites so far. They offer excellent pigmentation where only one layer is necessary to get almost exact shade as it is in the bottle.

——————–

SEPHORA #45 Mineral powder brush. It is the only brush I have backups of. You can use it in various ways: as a stippling brush for liquid foundation, for loose powder both regular and mineral, for blush, for cream foundation, etc…

———————–

GUERLAIN Meteorites #3 Teint Dore. I love everything about meteorites and this shade is my favourite. I use it instead of loose powder and the result is soft glowy skin.

And my final discovery is the perfume:

GUERLAIN L’Heure Bleue. I have debated for so long about this fragrance and finally I have caved in and purchased EdT version. I adore the soft violet and vanilla scent.
