EMPTIES │ July Empties (the biggest empties so far)

july empties

Hello lovelies,

it seems that being persistent pays off. When the month started, I didn’t think I’d have so many empties, but I’ve determinately stuck with using up the products and the result is here – the biggest empties post so far. Even though there is a lot of small samples, there’s still quite a generous amount of full sized products. Surprisingly, several make-up items are gone, too (among which the unspendable Dior blush). In the light of my pre no-buy haul, I’m glad to have more space.

Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion Review & ingredients

clarins body milk

Hello lovelies,

if you are following my blog, you probably know that I dislike body lotions – I often find them too sticky and hard to absorb into the skin. I was pretty lucky and my skin didn’t require extra moisture; however, as I’m getting older, my skin needs more hydration so I had to find a body lotion that will suit my needs.

I’ve bought Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion in a duo pack in a duty-free. The set consisted of two 400ml bottles of body lotion and retailed for approximately 35 euros, which was a true bargain. This size usually retails for GBP39, while the standard, 200 ml size, retails for GBP30. I’ve already used up one and now I’m using the second one.

According to Clarins, this body lotion visibly minimises the signs of ageing caused by sun, cold, heating and air-conditioning. Helps smooth dry, rough patches and improve skin tone. Gently removes dull, flaky cells for a youthful, all over glow and it is fast absorbing.

I can say from my experience with the product that the majority of the claims are true. However, I find this lotion more appropriate for winter, since my skin does not require that level of moisturizing during summer. As for being fast-absorbing – it definitely absorbs more quickly than the majority of other body lotions, but I still have to wait a couple of minutes before putting on my clothes.

This body lotion is a God-send for dry skin. While the skin of my body is generally not dry, I experience some dryness on my legs and ever since I’ve started using Clarins I had no problems with flaky skin on my legs. This lotion also works great as an after-sun lotion. In this domain it is comparable to my beloved Sisley Crème Reparatrice Corps. It soothes the skin, while shea butter works its magic on sunburns.

The consistency is thicker (I’m not a fan of it) – it feels more like a cream than a lotion, so you need more product to cover the entire body. I’ve solved this problem by applying the lotion on a slightly moist skin – the moisture helps the lotion to spread more easily. This technique, though, prolongs the absorption time.

Here are the ingredients.

I can see this lotion becoming a staple in my body care. I’m not too thrilled about the retail price (I doubt I’d get lucky to find it so cheap again) and I might experiment with other (more affordable alternatives), but I definitely count on this lotion in winter.

New In: Dior, Caudalie, Clarins, L’Oreal

dior clarins caudalie haul

Hello lovelies,

my no-buy is still going strong, but I have finally received my feelunique and echemist orders.

Recently Dior have launched their It Line which features 4 shades of new Addict It Lash Mascara (black, pink, purple and blue), 4 shades of liquid Addict It-Line eyeliner (black, pink, purple and blue) and 4 new shades of mono eyeshadow (yellow, black, pink and purple) (you can get them all at feelunique). I’ve been toying with an idea to get a coloured mascara, so this was the perfect chance and I bought Addict It Lash mascara in blue. I considered getting an eyeliner, but I’m not a fan of liquid eyeliners, so I passed them.

For years I’ve been trying to find a dupe of my perfect purple eyeshadow: Urban Decay Ecstasy (which I got in Book of Shadows 2 palette) and Dior Mono eyeshadow in It-Purple looked like a pretty decent match.

Then I was feeling a bit in a citrusy mood so I decided to use a discount and get Caudalie Zeste de Vigne shower gel. I enjoyed The de Vigne gel, so I hope this one won’t disappoint. I also received several samples with my order: La Roche Possay Redermic R anti wrinkle treatment and Decleor Aroma Lisse Energizing Smoothing Cream SPF 15. It’s been awhile since I last used Decleor, so I’m looking forward to trying it.

Ever since I’ve started to shop on-line, I was looking for an eu-based store with reasonable or no shipping which has Clarins products and I finally discovered e-chemist.co.uk. There I have found Clarins Everlasting foundation for mere GBP20, which is over 30% cheaper than its retail price in Croatia. While I do not need a foundation at the moment (I’m currently using a BB cream), it was too good a deal to miss out. I like the Clarins foundation – this is the second time I’ve repurchased it – and it will be good to have a heavier coverage foundation in the arsenal. Another bonus it that this foundation can be diluted with moisturizer for a lighter coverage.

I’ve also repurchased another product of which I only have fond memories – L’Oreal Voluminous x5 Carbon Black Mascara. It’s been my HG, but I never dared to purchased it in Croatia as the products in Croatian drugstores aren’t sealed, so you often end up with buying a dried out or damaged product.

Well, this is it. My sister told me to expect some Nuxe – I can’t wait to see what did she get me. I also hope that my iHerb package will be here soon.

Thank you for reading,

xoxo Tamara

FINISHED! July Edition

First, I’d like to thank all the readers who are reading and following my blog. i have to admit that I’ve been so busy and yesterday I have realized that the second year of blogging has finished.

I would like to thank you for your support :)

I’ve been looking back on my older posts and it is funny how one changes oneself through the period of time.

Reviewing some of not-so-widely known brands was one of reasons for which I have started blogging, and while this still remains true, some of my attitude towards blogging has changed.

I remember how much stuff I have accumulated during my first year as a beauty blogger. I would often find myself in the store purchasing something thinking „I really don’t need it, but I would like to review it on my blog“ and ending up with the product which wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t something I really needed.

As the time flies, I realize that I have changed my attitude towards make-up and cosmetics in general. Today, I have a much clearer perception of what I want and need and what I do not. I’m more focused on purchasing essentials and products that will work for me, rather than purchasing something that has a gorgeous packaging (although I may cave in from time to time).

It seems that I less and less willing to settle for the second best. However, the quest for THE product lasta a long time. I’ve been hunting THE blush for a year and I have yet to narrow the choice down (this is what lists are for). Luckily, this means that I have enough time to finish with the products I already have.

So, without further rambling, here are the products I have spent this month

FINISHED! June Edition

The last month has been really productive. I’ve sorted out all of the products which are close to finishing and I’ve been almost exclusively using them for the last month. Some products still aren’t finished, but many are.

CLARINS Instant Light Complexion Perfector in #00 Rose Shimmer Review and Swatch

Clarins Instant Light comes in four shades. It claims that it will even out the skin tone and give radiance. It comes in a 30ml tube and retails for $33. I have the sample of the pink shade, but I think my skin would benefit more from the champagne shade.

The shade #00 Rose Shimmer is very light milky pink.

The effect is very similar to that of Guerlain Meteorites primer – they have a glowy appearance. It contains very tiny microshimmer which is visible only if you really look at your skin with magnifying mirror.

Texture-wise, Instant Light is not at all similar to Meteorites primer: Meteorites have more watery feel, while Instant Light seems much creamier. I’m happy that none of these has that siliconey primer feeling.

As my skin isn’t perfect – I have huge pores and occasional redness, I avoid wearing it on its own, because it doesn’t do much for my skin.

When I used Instant Light as a primer underneath the foundation, I haven’t noticed and difference in how the foundation wears or how matte my skin is.

The best use for this is to dilute the foundation – it works really nice in combination with Everlasting, giving the Everlasting a sheerer, glowier appearance.

It hasn’t caused any breakouts and I haven’t noticed any new clogged pores. The champagne shade will go on my wish list, since I think it could work nicely in evening out my complexion.

MAKE-UP STASH INVENTORY (January 2012)

I think it’s high time for me to start to control my impulsive purchases and redirect the money I spend on cosmetics I don’t need on something else. I’ve had much more self-control before I started to get involved in beauty community. Before, I’d purchase something only when I would need it, but now I’ve been buying things only because they seem pretty or I think that I simply must have it (even though I’ll probably use it several times before the product is lost in my stash.

I don’t like feeling overwhelmed every morning when I’m doing my make-up with all of the products which I have. Sometimes it takes me literary 10 minutes only to decide which eyeshadow I should use. I’ve tried the concept of creating “looks” which would include several products and then wearing the look for the next week. It is a good concept, but this means that 90% of my stash sits there unused while I’m wearing the “look”.

I do not plan to use up all of my make-up. I’ll use eyeshadows only until I hit the pan (especially if it is a discontinued or LE product). The same goes with lipsticks. I always leave a millimetre or two of the lipstick in case I ever need to find a dupe. After that, I put the product in the original packaging and put it in my “finished products” drawer. I know this sounds a bit ridiculous, to keep the boxes after you have spent the product, but I have paid a lot for these products and I cannot imagine throwing the compact of, let’s say, Guerlain eyeshadow away.

I have taken a photo of all the items in my stash, for my reference (I’ll do the same the next year). Compared to the previous stash pictures, you can see that I have spent some items (yay! for me) and hit the pan on many others.

Project 10 Pans and Sample Challenge Update #4

It’s been ages from my last update. I can’t believe it took me so long to finally spend all of these products. However, I haven’t been as disciplined when it comes to the new purchases. I’ve got several nailpolishes and a primer. I’m also planning on a foundation purchase (even thought I have half a bottle of Clarins Everlasting and half a bottle of Dior Airflash) if the foundation I’m currently testing proves it is worth it.

Here are the original posts: Project 10 Pans, Sample Challenge

My stash posts are almost finished. This post will feature all of my blushes, bronzers, concealers and other random face products.

My Stash: Eyeshadows, Mascaras and Eyeliners

We have finally arrived to my favourite part: eyeshadows. I think that if I’d stop to buy eyeshadows today, I’d still have enough to last me a lifetime.

As for the eyeliners, I’m not a great collector. I prefer black, but here and there I use colour eyeliners.

My Stash: Foundations and Powders

When it comes to the foundations and powders, I’m still having control over it. I have three foundations, plus several 5ml samples, and 4 powders. Although I’d be happy if I could only have one of each, I don’t believe this is over the top.

Project 10 Pans: Update #2

You thought that I have forgotten about my Project 10 Pans? Well, I didn’t.

Here’s another update with the items I have spent in the last three weeks, since the Update #1.

The last two weeks have been really slow and I didn’t spend so many products. But the good thing is that many are close to finishing, so I hope that soon, I’ll be rid of many more items.

But for now, this are the products that are gone:

Dove Pro Age Body Lotion (yes, I have finally gotten rid of this horrible, horrible product)

Estee Lauder Spotlight (if you by chance own this product, please cut the tube, as I have found out that even when I couldn’t squeze anything out, there was over 5 ml of cream left in the tube).

Clarins Pink Clay mask.

As I have said, it is not much, but still, it is 3 products less.

And not to forget, ever since I have realized that Meteories Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder  is being discontinued (I don’t know why, because this pressed powder is the best out there), I’ve been searching to stock up. I have found an amazing deal ($35), so I’ve got Mythic Parfait, which I will save for the winter.

Foundation Swatches

(click on the picture to enlarge it)

I’ve been a bit bored today so I’ve decided to swatch most of the foundations I have. For reference, the skin of my arm is currently NC20.

The swatches are (from left to right):

GIVENCHY Photo’Perfexion Light in shade #4 – you can see that the foundation oxidizes and turns into darker orange shade as it dries

LANCOME Effacernes concealer in Beige Pastel (yes, I know that this isn’t a foundation, but it is here because of the colour reference as this shade is the exact shade as my face is)

MAX FACTOR Second Skin Foundation in #70 – it is scary how pink it looks

LANCOME Teint Miracle #03

CLARINS Everlasting Foundation #103

GIVENCHY Photo’Perfexion #4

Project 10 Pans: Update #1

As most of you probably know, not long ago I’ve started my Project 10 pans, which will help me to finally spend some of the items that I’ve been keeping half-spent in my stash for years (I think that the oldest item is Guerlain Kiss Kiss Maxi Shine lipstick, which is over 5 years old, and surprisingly, even now it is the same as it was the day I bought it – it didn’t changed the texture or the smell).

The list of all the items I’m planning to spend can be found here:

CLARINS Cleansing Milk With Gentian Review

Clarins cleansing milk with Gentian is recommended for oily/combination skin. The full-size bottle contains 200 ml and retails for $29.50 (19 euros).

I’ve tested a small 10ml sample bottle which was enough for 12 make-up cleansings. Compared to Sisley cleansing milks I’ve tried so far (with Sage and with White Lily) Clarins has a much runnier texture.

The smell of Clarins cleansing milk is very unusual – it smells like man skin-care product.

As for the cleansing, a small amount is enough (I was surprised that something so tiny lasted so long). I can use it both on face and eyes (although avoid using it on eyes if your eyes are sensitive). In spite of being adapted for oily skin, it is not drying at all.

It is pretty decent cleanser, but not the best. It takes off the majority of the foundation, although I still see a bit of foundation when I use toner. This cleansing milk dissolves some mascara, but not enough to completely remove it.

Of course, I follow with a foaming cleanser, so this doesn’t bother me much, but if cleansing milk is your only method of cleaning, then this might not be the best solution.

Project 10 Pans: Part 2 – Skincare

I have announced my Project 10 Pans and the rules I’m planning to stick to in this post.

This post will feature all the skincare items I want to finally spend. Most of the items are already half-spent, but for some reason, I got bored with them and put them aside. This project will finally help me to get rid of all that stuff that is wasting the space in my cosmetics cabinet.

Project 10 Pans: Part 1 – Make-Up

I’m sure that many of you have heard for Project 10 Pans. It is a less radical version of no-buy, where you are not allowed to purchase anything new until you have spent 10 products from your stash.

Yesterday, I’ve been organizing my stash and found tons of items that are almost finished and which are only wasting space. I’ve decided that it is a high time for me to get rid of those items, so I’ve started my own Project 10 Pans (or in my version Project 42 Pans) in which I’m hoping to finally spend all of these products (and to save some money, of course, because I’ve got my eye on Dior Summer collection).

In the past, I’ve been starting such a project, but soon I would cave in and the project would fail. This time I’ve decided to post about the project on-line, hoping that it will force me to stick with it.

I’ve formed these rules:

    – I’m allowed to buy only essential items at any time (such as a moisturizer, a foundation, a cleanser or a mascara)

    – after I spend first 8 products, I’m allowed to purchase only one thing, as a reward for myself (luckily for me, many of the products are sample of GWP size, so it shouldn’t be too hard)

Plus several additional rules:

    – I’ll stop carrying all my credit cards with me

    – the amount of cash I’m carrying with me must not be enough to get any make-up item

This post features the first part of my project which concerns make-up. I’ve only put one eyeshadow palette in this project, as it would be impossible to spend even half of mine eyeshadows.

I’m including links for:

Part 2 – skincare

Part 3 – hair and bodycare
